Perched on a private plateau deep within the heart of Sibuya, Nel’s Lodge offers an intimate escape – where forest, river and sky converge in a seamless embrace. Designed for families, small groups or couples seeking serenity with a touch of indulgence, this sole-use lodge promises comfort, privacy and quiet discovery.

Opening for guests 14 December 2025

Nestling in verdant woodland and carefully integrated into the wild contours of the landscape, Nel’s Lodge frames sweeping views of the Kariega estuary as it winds its way through the reserve to the distant ocean.

Here, the architecture is softened by nature – walls of indigenous stone, warm timber decks, and generous windows that invite the outside in. In the early morning, mist drifts across the river plains below, while golden light filters between branches to dance on your private terrace.

The lodge’s expansive living spaces flow effortlessly into nature, offering cosy nooks for conversation, a welcoming fireplace for cooler evenings, and a swimming pool set against the forest. Whether you linger over breakfast on the deck, gaze across the valley at sunset, or drift into soundless rest under a canopy of stars, Nel’s Lodge is a place to feel wholly immersed, deeply restored, and quietly enchanted.

Please note: Nel’s Lodge is a brand-new addition to Sibuya and is still a work in progress. Official photographs will be available soon, but in the meantime you can read more about the story behind the lodge in our blog post.

    What to pack

A warm, waterproof jacket is an essential item, even in midsummer! Long pants are also recommended for evenings. Don’t forget a swimming costume – swimming towels are provided on request. Suntan lotion (preferably waterproof) and sun block are essential all year as are caps or hats.

    Climate

The Eastern Cape weather is notoriously variable, but the ‘Sunshine Coast’ is so-called as this area apparently boasts the most sunshine hours in South Africa but being situated close to the coast, the wind plays an unavoidable part.
