Lion cubs. At last, the wait is over…

Nov 15, 2024

"We’ve almost been holding our breath as the romance between the Lions has kept us guessing and waiting…and WAITING!..."

At last, we’re so proud and excited to announce that the Sibuya family has expanded with the addition of 3 dinky, super-cute Lion cubs! They’re thrilling guests lucky enough to spot them as they’re now very adventurous – play stalking, tussling and exploring their new world! . All these seemingly playful interactions are not only fun but essential for honing their hunting skills and building social bonds.

When they were born, with their eyes closed, the Lion cubs were very small and only weighed about 1.5 kilograms (53 ounces). Their eyes opened 3-11 days after birth. Like humans, Lion cubs are born without teeth!

They make a variety of sounds at birth, but don’t begin to roar until about one year old. They’re eventually weaned by the age of six months. Females tend to stay with their mothers longer than males. Males will generally only stay with their mother until they’re two, when the King of Beasts will encourage them to leave the pride to find their fortune, in their own territory elsewhere! Females have a very strong bond and may stay with their mother for life.
