It is at times like this that we realise just how much we underestimate animal behaviour, memory and natural instinct…
It’s become clear that Mimi still remembers the poaching of her mother and aunt a year ago… when she was last on the reserve… and has visited their gravesite a couple of times since her return. Unfortunately, she’s not settled as well as Lulu.
In spite of our best efforts she became the victim of a traumatic unfortunate ‘accident’ and landed up in the Estuary during Sunday night.
Yesterday was an intense 3 hour nightmare to get Mimi out of deep sticky mud. The Sibuya team made a frantic, magnificent effort to rescue her. We’re eternally grateful for their dedication.
Although Mimi was rescued there are still troubling aspects at play. When we can, we’ll post updates.
Thank you all for the continuous support…
